New ‘Super Bays’ in the West End have been catching motorists out

Westminster council is raking in up to £250,000 a bay each year in fines according to information provided by the council.

The bays are pay by phone bays in the day time and although one sign says “all other times no charge” at 6.30 pm each day the bays become a taxi rank.

There is a small yellow section on the top of a pay by phone sign but it is confusing. Of course the council are unrepentant as usual saying that the signage is “very clear”.

We think that these must be the most profitable bays in the country. We hear the council wants to roll out more dual use bays and we can see why!
